BHUBANESWAR, 14 May 14, 2016: Fire broke out at a small portion of Khandagiri hill in the city on Sunday evening. The incident occurred behind the ancient heritage Jain temple on the hill.
After getting information regarding the fire, a team of six fire fighters of the Secretariat fire station rushed to the spot and doused the fire. No damage or casualties were reported.
"We took an hour to control the fire. Though actual reason is yet to be known, fire from half-burnt cigarette might have caused the incident," said station officer Rohith Kumar.
Khandagiri hill has a Jain temple with an ancient statue of Lord Mahavira. It has some caves carved out in the hill during the period of king Kharavela. It has some inscription which tells expeditions of the king including victory of Magadha kingdom.- Times of India
